Ranch House Reaches Out With Sustainable Redesign

Reworking a shell with potential and a site with extraordinary views, Adam and Becky Burke tapped Oregon’s Matthew O. Daby to open up and update this 1950s ranch house, bringing in more light and functional use for a family on the move. The home was redesigned into to zones: one for adults, and a lower level for the couple’s two children. The main level provides the grownups privacy for the master bedroom, office and living room, while the below ground floor hosts two bedrooms and a playroom. To create a warm contrast to big windows, Daby used douglas fir, cherry and cedar wood throughout and worked sustainable and energy-saving elements — like reclaimed wood, radiant heating, ventilation fans and native plants — wherever possible.
